At UDIS we believe all students have the right to be the best that they can be. We value each and every individual’s uniqueness. We understand that many children could need additional support at some time during their education for a wide variety of reasons and learning support is here to support this.

What is learning support? Learning support is a service that supports all students to access the curriculum as best as they can. We endeavour to be as inclusive as possible. Learning support can be used to resolve difficulties and promote positive solutions for students experiencing barriers to their learning.

How does it work? We provide support to students by planning and implementing programmes and initiatives to support individuals and groups. This is done collaboratively with teachers.

In addition, learning support also supports teachers to provide high quality teaching and learning consistently.

Why have learning support? Some students need extra help, learning support can provide this. Learning support also provides support for extending students who are considered able, gifted or talented.

What learning strategies are used? We employ a range of learning support strategies which include:

  • Identification and assessment of individual learning needs
  • Designing individual learning programmes for students
  • Advising and working with colleagues in a cooperative fashion
  • Liaising with external agencies where needed
  • Communicating with parents

Are there any charges? Students within our Learning Support programme may be required to pay additional learning support fees where necessary. The school will be in touch if this is the case for your student.

Who provides learning support? There are a range of staff involved from the Learning Support Coordinator (LSCO) who runs the programme, through learning support teachers, assistants and a learning support committee. These staff work together to best meet the needs of those in learning support.
