As many of you know, Udon Thani International School (UDIS) has been a candidate school with the International Baccalaureate (IB) since the 2014/2015 academic year. Our goal has always been to become an IB World School and we are pleased to announce that UDIS has now been accredited as an IB World School. This means we are now authorised to offer the IB’s Primary Years Programme (PYP) to our learners. UDIS is only the 12th PYP school in all of Thailand and the first IB school in the whole of the Northeast. So, this is a fantastic achievement by the school and one which we are proud to share with all of our parents who have helped support us.
What does this mean?
To be an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School means that a school has adopted and successfully demonstrated a commitment towards meeting all the standards, practices, and requirements in developing each programme as stipulated by the International Baccalaureate (IB). By committing to this framework, the school is in turn supported by the IB to ensure high-quality delivery and fidelity in the implementation of its programmes.
UDIS is an authorised International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The school is focused on continually improving our implementation of the standards and practices of the IB to provide our students with a strong international education.
How is the IB different?
International Baccalaureate® (IB) programmes aim to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed.
The IB’s programmes are different from other curricula because they:
- encourage students of all ages to think critically and challenge assumptions
- develop independently of government and national systems, incorporating quality practice from research and our global community of schools
- encourage students of all ages to consider both local and global contexts
- develop multilingual students.
In order to teach IB programmes, schools must be authorized. Every school authorized to offer IB programmes is known as an IB World School. UDIS has now gained this authorisation.
What does this mean for student learning?
Nothing will change with our student learning as we have always been committed to teaching through inquiry. Students who are part of UDIS, have developed approaches to learning skills and the attributes of the IB learner profile.
Students are able to take responsibility for their own learning and understand how knowledge itself is constructed. They are encouraged to try different approaches to learning and to take responsibility for their own educational progress.
Students learn to:
- ask challenging questions
- think critically
- develop research skills proven to help them in higher education.
The PYP also encourages students to be active in their communities and to take their learning beyond academic study. We think the PYP is a perfect match for the vision of the school and we are proud that UDIS is now an IB World School.

ในการสอนโปรแกรม IB โรงเรียนจะต้องได้รับอนุญาต ทุกโรงเรียนที่ได้รับอนุญาตนั้น เป็นโรงเรียน IB World School ซึ่ง UDIS ได้รับการอนุญาตนี้แล้ว
